Archive vs. done: keeping your roadmap honest

The RoadBear team·May 6, 2026·3 min read

At some point every board gets noisy: duplicates, one-off requests, ideas that no longer fit. You want them gone — but how you remove them sends a message.

Done means shipped

Marking an idea "done" tells everyone who voted that it happened. It stays visible in the done column as proof of progress. Use it when you actually delivered the thing.

Archive means set aside

Archiving quietly removes an idea from the public board and from your plan's active-feature limit — without pretending it shipped. It's the honest way to clear duplicates and declined requests. You can always unarchive later.

The rule of thumb: if you'd be happy for a voter to get an email saying "done," mark it done. Otherwise, archive it. Your roadmap stays trustworthy either way.
